Amtrak

I'm not really up to writing tonight, but I want to share a little bit of research I found regarding Amtrak to back up my claims from yesterday's post. From the sounds of some of these complaints, it sounds like I've been lucky. Nonetheless, the horrendous traffic on Southern California freeways will keep me riding the railways until I, probably inevitably, get completely pushed over the edge by Amtrak. I guarantee that when this happens, I'll look back to this post and wonder why I was such an idiot to tempt a Bush League company with an outcome that is a seemingly fate accompli, but like I said a few posts back, I'm a glutton for punishment and need to learn things the hard way....even when I have forewarning. Anyway, here you go:

Yes, the socal freeways suck and are often times horrendous, but I can't quite relate to you. The last time I traveled on Amtrak was approx. 8 years ago and it wasn't an altogether poor experience. Granted, it's been almost a decade, but it wouldn't surprise me one bit that in lieu of our fluctuating economy, public transpo progressively suffered and can now officially be deemed questionable.

The real crime though, is that as demand increases and oil prices continue to rise, service will inevitably sustain its decline and unfortunately your experience is a shining example of how we as a society continue to suffer.

Regardless, I am one of those stubborn few who will actually tempt the drive EVERY time. It's a control thing. I'd much rather sit behind the wheel foolishly deciding to bear 181.5 miles of potential madness just to have my own peace and quiet. Call me what you will, but as long as I'm legally licensed and able to navigate, it’s always gonna be rubber over steel.

This is a collection of formerly accepted nicknames for North American railroads... Enjoy!

"All Aboard With Amtrak"
"America's Getting Into Training"
"Amtrak from simple comfort to
pampered pleasure"
"For the America you can't see
anywhere else"
"Our trains are designed to
provide our guests with the
options that satisfy their
personal preference"

That last quote is my personal favorite:

"Our trains are designed to
provide our guests with the
options that satisfy their
personal preference"

Yeah, if my "personal preference" was to pay good money to be treated poorly Amtrak would be numero uno on my list of transportation options. Unfortunately, I enjoy a touch of service and class. Call me crazy...
